What a nightmare for the Colorado players... Do anyone know: Can a coach just Willynilly Cut a player on Scholarship and kick him out onto the street like Deion’s doing? How F/in heartless that guy is. https://apple.news/AvVao_xY6R8u2Zf1NwIgrNA

can 'cut' a player to bring in his own and in doing so they have to offer to honor the scholarship for the remainder of their 4 years IF the player decides to stay in school yet not play football. Colorado players that were cut reported that they were told they could remain on scholarship and at Colorado if they so chose, but they of course were no longer on the football team.

Yep that’s why I’ve always laughed at the people who pretended to care about college athletes. They went ape #### when Dabo said he might have to pull walk ons scholarships but not a word when Deion is kicking half the team to the curb.

be against doing it, but is now having to do it.
Deion was very up front when he took the Colorado job that he would be deciding which players were good fits and which were not, and notifying the ones that were not that they should look elsewhere.

Deion told them all this was exactly what he planned to do, so the Colorado players pretending to be surprised or actually surprised now is a bit puzzling.
When people show you who they are, believe them the first time!

The difference is that we all know Deion is a sack of ####. He was fired from his own high school for assaulting a teacher gave bad grades to football players. His son did the same to a different teacher, one Deion employs. Deion also was charged with assault only a few years ago for beating his wife.

I disagree about Deion.

I see him as someone who has had incredible success as a professional athlete, and has also been through some challenges due to his own errors in judgment and the trappings of stardom. He turned his life around, became a Christian, and has done a lot of good since then.
I believe he is a better man today than he was years ago.
You don't have to like his style or his past, but I think it's important to recognize that he has changed and is using his platform for good. His story resonates with a lot of young people.

What you're missing is that this stuff didn't happen in the 1990s when he was a football star. They happened in the last decade AFTER he allegedly turned his life around. He allegedly became a Christian in 1997 after he committed suicide.
Almost 20 years later, right before he became a head coach at Jackson State, he was fired from the high school he founded (literally called Prime Prep). He was charged with domestic violence against his wife in 2013 and then again, against a different wife, in 2015. His son, whom he currently employs, attacked the teacher a few years ago.
I get that Deion gives mouth service to finding God and it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But it's ########. What matters are his actions. This isn't in the past and weren't the actions of a 21 year old defensive back whose caught up on his own stardom. These were all the actions of a 50 year old father. People can differ on whether a tiger can change their stripes, but there's no evidence its happened here, especially when continues to do horrible things.

Does anybody else remember Dabo honoring the four-year scholarship of a recruit who had a stroke and was never going to play a single snap at Clemson? Dabo even went to his bed at the hospital and insisted he wanted him to sign his Letter Of Intent to Clemson.

Deion has one thing that he is going to promote, elevate and nurture. That is his own massive ego. A true narcissist of the highest order who always has to be the center of attention. First it was sports, then it was preaching, then it was reality TV, now coaching football. Always about Deion and never about the kids. He demands things from the players that he never did as a young man. Just take a look at the pictures of him on draft day with the fashion attire, jerry curls and multiple gold chains, which he does not allow his players to wear. He demanded they never wear a baseball cap in any team meeting as he was standing before them wearing a baseball cap. Total egomaniac and hypocrite!

People pay lip service to academics, and student-athletes focusing on their personal development, and maintaining the purity of college athletics.... but there are more people who nearly completely care about winning (silly pride) and don't have a natural appreciation or desire for the above things.
I would prefer Clemson be in FCS than CFB be turned into a minor league for the pros. I don't understand why NFL-type fans have to corrupt CFB when they can already have NFL/XFL/USFL.

Key from the article, and NCAA bylaw
Apr 26, 2023, 1:20 PM

The rule they’ve been using — 15.5.1.7 — is known as the “Aid After Departure of Head Coach” bylaw. Newly hired coaches can remove a player from their 85-man scholarship roster but keep them on scholarship as long as they stop playing.
15.5.1.7 Aid After Departure of Head Coach. A student-athlete who receives athletically related institutional financial aid in subsequent academic years after the departure of a head coach from the institution is not a counter in a year in which the student-athlete does not participate in intercollegiate athletics, provided: (Adopted: 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10, Revised: 4/26/17 effective 8/1/17, 5/1/19) (a) The student-athlete participated in the applicable sport and received athletically related institutional financial aid during the coach's tenure at the institution; and (b) The student-athlete does not participate in the applicable sport beyond the next regular academic year (including completion of the championship season in spring sports) after the departure of the head coach.
